This week I tried two new recipes, one savory, one sweet and both delicious!
The first is a great winter soup with parsnips, apples and potatoes. It has a smooth, slightly nutty flavor and I could easily have substituted other seasonal root veggies for the parsnips as well.

The second recipe I made for my father-in-law's birthday, a lemon raspberry cheesecake. I had never made a cheesecake before, mostly because I hadn't gotten around to buying a springform pan. It turned out remarkably well, kind of a fluffy version rather than a packed, dense cheesecake. The raspberry compote on top perfectly highlighted the rich lemony flavor of the cake. The only downside is that I now know how easy it is to make such a decadent and calorie-rich dessert...my willpower will be given quite the exercise!
